Gaming should be fun

Gaming should be fun

I've had a decent number of people try to dictate to me how exactly I should play the video games I like to play. In my opinion, that's just a bit silly. If I'm happily playing along on my own, that's fine. For me, the key purpose of playing video games is having fun.

I'll admit it, I have a tendency to leave games unfinished. Granted, that's primarily because this semester has been by far the busiest one I've ever had. I've had some people get grumpy with me about starting new games when I haven't finished the last one that I was playing. Again, I find that silly. My gaming experience, in a single player game, shouldn't be impeding yours, and if I've had enough of "Halo 5" for now and want to play something else, I will. I'm here to have my fun, not your fun.

That said, if having fun gaming means to you finishing every game 100 percent of the time, more power to you. I respect that. It's not my style, but I certainly wouldn't want to put a damper on your fun just because you play a bit differently than I do. Even in "League of Legends," one of the most meta-heavy, crystallized games, I don't mind people trying something new, or out of the blue, so they can have fun. If I really and truly care about that, I will play with my friends and make sure I don't have any people who are just there to troll.

Simply put, too often in video games, and board games for that matter, the point, which is to have fun, is forgotten. Winning or beating the game is as good as experiencing the story or finding every collectable; but I think there has to be room for other people to play how they want.

Make sure you have fun playing games. Everyone can have their own style of play, as long as they remember to have fun.
