Opaso appears in court over Yik Yak threat

18-year-old Olayinka Opaso, who confessed to posting the anonymous Yik Yak threat against students on the Lee University campus, has been suspended from Lee and appeared in the Bradley County Judicial Complex Oct. 20.

Opaso is currently facing charges for commission of an act of terrorism. He has been directed to not be on Lee's campus and his student visa may be affected.

A preliminary hearing date was set for Nov. 17.

Opaso was released on a $75,000 bond Oct. 14.

Cleveland Daily Banner reported that the 10 percent of the bond needed was paid in assistance with individuals from Lee who support Opaso in the midst of the repercussions from his anonymous post, "though not the act of terrorism of which he is accused."

The Cleveland Daily Banner also reported  Scott Kanavos, Opaso's defense lawyer, said Opaso is a young man who made an error in judgement and  Opaso is fully cooperating with law enforcement and Lee administration.
