The 54th annual Parade of Favorites filled Lee University’s Conn Center with students and family members on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 12.

Rebekah Mura, who represented the Admissions Office, was crowned Miss Parade of Favorites 2016. She is a senior communications major with an advertising emphasis and is from Augusta, Georgia.

Runner-up was Indyasia Johnson, a senior biochemistry and chemistry major from Cincinnati, Ohio. Johnson represented Student Leadership Council.

Fifteen women and their escorts from various organizations on campus performed in the student talent showcase to sponsor Operation Christmas Child.

The evening was themed “Cirque Du SoLee” and the 15 women were scored on their academic achievement and activity involvement, attendance to rehearsals, their interview, the talent they chose to perform, evening wear and impromptu questions.

Each of the participating organizations selected a male and female from their group to perform in Parade of Favorites.

“Parade of Favorites is a longstanding tradition of Lee that brings the campus together to showcase the talent of many of our amazing students,” said event sponsor Jill Welborn.

Choreographed dances were performed during the evening. First, the couples performed a routine to kick off the night followed by an all-girls dance and an escort dance.

“This is my first time here and I loved the dances. I was really impressed, it lives up to the hype,” Brittany Johnson, student a Lee, said.

Rehearsals began two months ago in September.

“The practices can be grueling, fun and crazy and in those times we are brought together in unity. Those times practicing were my favorite part of being in Parade of Favorites,” said Miss Parade of Favorites 2015 Christina Sarmiento.
