The Squires Library will be hosting a Family Feud competition on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. Students interested in signing up have until Dec. 12 to register teams of five. The teams will consist of a captain and four additional members, and the library encourages faculty and staff to sign up too.

During the competition, the teams will face off with questions pertaining to student and campus life. A $20 Amazon gift card for each member of the winning team is up for grabs.

Assistant Professor and Librarian Julie Burchfield organizes the competition, including the search for a moderator.

“Phil Cook has graciously agreed to serve as our moderator again this year, and let me just say, he is way better than even Steve Harvey,” Burchfield said.

Burchfield says Family Feud night was designed to help the library feel like a safe place for students.

“The purpose of these types of events is to get students into the building and to provide them with the opportunity to meet some of our amazing library faculty and staff,” said Burchfield. “Library anxiety is a real thing for some students and people in general. Events such as game night, and now game show night, help to alleviate some of that anxiety because students are introduced to the library in a no-pressure type of setting.”

Tori Keafer, an alumna of Lee who graduated in May 2019, attended last semester’s Family Feud night.

“When watching Family Feud on TV, I would always gape at people's completely insane answers, but it's amazing how your mind can draw a complete blank when you're standing up there,” said Thiessen.

Sophomore accounting major Zachary Fowler also participated in the competition and recounted the game show as a favorite Lee memory.

“One of my favorite memories of Family Feud from last year was playing against some of my professors and having a fun time interacting with them outside of the classroom,” said Fowler.

Eight teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The library will contact the teams in early January with the official participation rules and other details.
