The Lady Flames began their conference season with a 5-0 drubbing of their rival Shorter University this past Saturday. The Flames were off to a fast start as junior Devin Healy earned a hat trick within the first 12 minutes of play. The Lady Flames would go on to score two more goals while holding Shorter off the scoreboard.

“My teammates set me up with the perfect passes,” said Healy. “It takes a team to score.”

Following Healy’s lead, senior forwards Riley Engles and Emma Higgins netted a goal each to give the Lady Flames a 5-0 lead at halftime.

“We played really well together as a team and possessed really well,” said Healy. “What we have been working on in practice, we really did well on.”

The second half was more of a challenge with no score from either team. The Flames defense played strong, keeping Shorter from scoring. Though they deviated in the second half, Head Coach Chris Hennessey has high hopes for his team as they advance into conference play.

“I feel good,” said Hennessey. “They’ve had a really tough six games, but they’ve gotten better and they’ve created a lot of opportunities.”

The Lady Flames play their next game against Mississippi College on Oct. 4 at Lee University.
