The Lady Flames will take on their longtime rival, Shorter University, for the first time this season at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night.

Coach Andrea Hudson explained how both teams are in a season of development because they have a lot of underclassmen players.

“While [Shorter’s] record is not very strong, they have really challenged some of the stronger teams in our conference,” said Hudson .

Senior libero Micaela McMichen feels ready to take on Shorter.

“With this being one of my last times playing Shorter, I would like to sweep them in 3 and come out with a conference win,” said McMichen.

McMichen and Abby Stroh, a freshman starter, both acknowledged the team has had a slower start, but they are making improvements each game. McMichen explained how younger teams need a period of time to be able to adjust and develop playing together.

“I believe we’re starting to mesh and we’ve been figuring things out over the past few weeks,” said Stroh. “I’m excited to see where we’re heading.”

Stroh explained how they have been focusing specifically on their skills and how to play well together.

“We are also working on certain plays Shorter runs in order to be prepared,” said Stroh.

Hudson has also been making the team focus in on having a stronger offense in practices leading up to the rival game.

Stroh hopes that there is a lot of energy brought from the crowd because that always helps the team rise to the excitement. Hudson reiterated how her team is always appreciative of the support that they get for this game and they hope to have a good crowd to cheer them on.
