Senior Haverly Harrold has been a part of the Lady Flames golf team since her freshman year and has won multiple GSC titles. She is a standout not only on the team, but also in the classroom where she is a health science pre-physicians assistant major.

Harrold’s golf career began in the seventh-grade when she started playing in golf tournaments. However, her interest in the sport began at an even younger age when she saw her father playing and wanted to spend time with him.

“My dad always played when I was growing up,” said Harrold. “I was a big daddy’s girl and I wanted to be around him. He has encouraged me and taught me everything I know.”

Harrold has put in a lot of effort and hard work, which has paid off during her time at Lee. She hopes to work in pediatrics and be a physician’s assistant when her career at Lee is over.

Her energy and mindset have also been noticed by her coaches—especially Head Golf Coach John Maupin.

“From day one her competitiveness and energy have had an impact on our team,” said Maupin. “Haverly has a fun and positive energy about her, and that is a big help to our team.”

During her time at Lee, Harrold has won several titles and has been a three-time All-GSC player. She has also maintained a commitment to her studies, winning several awards for her academic achievements.

Having always been interested in the medical field, Harrold decided that she would make a career of it. However, juggling golf and the science program has been a challenge. Between tournaments and labs, she said she sometimes finds herself in tough spots but has never doubted her ability to handle it.

“It’s been super tough,” said Harrold. “There have been a lot of sleepless nights, but I’m proud of what I’ve done on the golf course and with school. I’m just trying to make every moment count.”

Harrold has not had to go about managing her time alone. She said she appreciates all the support and encouragement from her teammates, coaches and professors who have helped her along the way.

“The coaches have been super good to me about scheduling practices and understanding my course load,” said Harrold. “They’ve all been super great to check up on me.”

Harrold said choosing to attend Lee was tough, but looking back as a senior she is happy with her decision. She said she has grown tremendously at Lee. Harrold’s coaches have also taken note of her continual growth, watching her challenge herself and others.

“I have seen Haverly show growth in so many areas during her time here,” said Maupin. “I’ve seen her mature both on and off the golf course and learn how to better handle any adversity that she might face.”
