The No. 14 Lee women's golf team started the spring season in style with a two-stroke victory at the Battle of Hilton Head this week. The invitational took place at the Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Golf Course in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Lady Flames shot a 309 on Tuesday after a 296 on Monday to claim the victory with a 605 total. Carson-Newman landed in second (607), Catawba was third (611) and Missouri-St. Louis and No. 15 Limestone tied for fifth (613).

"It was a different golf course out there today. Tough pins and strong wind made it very challenging,” said head coach John Maupin. We hit a rough stretch on holes 9-11 in our round, but I thought we showed a lot of resilience to regain our composure down the stretch."

Sophomores Emily Felix and Carson McKie led the way for the Lady Flames as they tied for eighth, shooting 150 (six over). Freshman Supuschaya Srichantamit shot a 76 in both rounds for a 152 total, putting her tied for 13th place.

Senior leader Haverly Harrold delivered an opening round 73 on Monday but slid to an 80 in Tuesday’s final round, leading to a 20th place finish. Annika Gino rounded things out, posting rounds of 83 and 82.

"It feels great to pick up the victory to open the season,” said Maupin. “I’m very proud of our players. We're looking forward to building on this momentum."

The Lady Flames will tee off again on Mar. 9-10 in Windermere, Florida, for the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational, hosted by Rollins College. To see an overview of their full schedule, check here.
