Breaking from past semesters’ playlists, this semester we’ve decided to survey our staff for a playlist of 24 fast-paced, energetic songs.

Here’s a list of the songs we chose and why we chose them in the order they appear in the playlist.

“7:30 AM” by Slothrust

“This song is the opening theme for ‘You’re the Worst,’ a show I got into over quarantine thanks to one of my roommates. It’s a show about awful people ruining each others’ lives, but it deals with mental health in a way I found to be very relevant this year.” — Matthew Taylor, Senior Reporter.

“Sports” by Beach Bunny

“I love Beach Bunny’s music. It’s very fun, very nostalgic and makes me feel like I’m in a coming-of-age film.” — Rhianna Barrow, Senior Photographer.

“Halfway Up” by The Brook & The Bluff

“I love the beat in this song and every time I listen to it, it reminds me of walking downtown in the middle of a big city.” — Shannon Clark, Life Editor.

“Change For Me” by Brasstracks

“I chose these songs because I love the trumpet.” — Shay Maclean, Senior Photographer.

“Gitchee Gitchee Goo” by Phineas and the Ferbtones

“[It] reminds me of childhood. Good times. Free of worry.” — Amulya Chalapathy, Social Media Manager.

“Rollercoaster” by Bleachers

“I chose [these songs] specifically because they remind me of my freshman year at Lee when everything wasn’t so stressful. Whenever I listen to ‘Rollercoaster,’ it reminds me of a movie scene and makes me feel like a main character.” — Abby Randolph, Senior Reporter.

“Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” by Journey

“It’s a song that everyone recognizes, and the lyrics pack a lot of energy.” — Harrison McCroskey, Copy Editor.

“Chill” by Bakar

“I chose [Chill and I Wish] because they are two jams for a perfect sunny day.” — Dawson Reed, Sports Editor.

“Alien Boy” by Oliver Tree

“It has the weirdest lyrics ever, and I love the video.” — Amulya Chalapathy, Social Media Manager.

“Share Your Address” by Ben Platt

“[This] is another catchy song about falling in love at first sight and wanting to spend the rest of your life with that person. The live version has guitar solos and even highlights the three talented background singers.” — Riley Latham, Senior Designer.

“Alright” by Judah & the Lion

“Judah & the Lion is one of my favorite bands. I went to a Judah concert with some friends last November, and it was one of the best nights of my life! They put on an incredible show and are all about having fun.” — Ashley Smith, Editor-in-Chief.

“Southern Belle” by Palehound

“Palehound is a relatively unheard of band that I’ve been into for a while now, and this so happens to be their latest release, a cover of an Elliott Smith song. A little simplistic, but you can’t help but dig the guitar.” — Matthew Taylor, Senior Reporter.

“Dance, Baby!” by boy pablo

“I chose [this song] because it’s fun and has a very good beat to dance to. The vibe is unmatched.” — Anna Shand, News Editor.

“RAIN” by Ben Platt

“[This] is so catchy it will be stuck in your head for days! It’s a good song to jam out to anytime and will easily lift your spirits. It’s about choosing love instead of heartbreak. The music video for this is beautifully produced and choreographed!” — Riley Latham, Senior Designer.

“Sweet Talk” by Saint Motel

“I chose [this song] because I have very good memories attached to it. I heard it for the first time on a road trip, with the car windows down, as my friends and I cruised down a backroad. It’s a really fun song to jam to in the car.” — Anna Shand, News Editor.

“Sunday Best” by Surfaces

“I found this song on TikTok. It’s a fun song and makes me want to dance.” — Ashley Smith, Editor-in-Chief.

“Midnight Sky” by Miley Cyrus

“Ever since Miley dropped this song on TikTok, I’ve been listening to it NONSTOP. I don’t listen to a lot of her stuff, but I love that she’s constantly experimenting with her sound.” — Rhianna Barrow, Senior Photographer.

“I Learnt Some Jazz Today” by Tessellated

“Listening to these songs motivates me to drive faster and type faster.” — Shay Maclean, Senior Photographer.

“Sound and Vision” by David Bowie

I picked ‘Sound and Vision’ because I love David Bowie, and this song has an upbeat disco mood that I love.” — Carsen Holaday, Senior Reporter.

“Keep It Gold” by Surfaces

“I found this song this past March when most of us were stuck inside. It reminds me of sunshine-filled bike rides with my dad on a spring afternoon.” — Shannon Clark, Life Editor.

“‘I’m Good’ reminds me of better days whenever I’m down, and I really love it for that.” — Abby Randolph, Senior Reporter.

“Back Pocket” by Vulfpeck

“I picked ‘Back Pocket’ because it’s so fun to sing along to, especially with your friends!” — Carsen Holaday, Senior Reporter.
