The Lee baseball team continues to reach new heights in the NCAA National and Regional Polls. The Flames were voted the top team in the South Region and No. 3 in the nation, including four first place votes, by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) this week.

The Flames are riding a 13-game winning streak and are 24-2 overall and 19-1 in the GSC as they head into this weekend's home series with No. 24 Shorter.

"It's still early and we have lots of big games left, but it's nice recognition for the type of season we are having. We just need to focus on the next game and continuing to play quality baseball like we have thus far. It's an extremely tough conference and region so we need to do our job and be prepared each and every game."

The Flames have used a balance attack for pitching, hitting and defense to dominate the competition. Alan Smith is sixth in the GSC in batting average (.400), five in slugging (.663), first in runs (31), sixth in hits (38) and sixth in on-base percentage (.500). Power hitting first baseman Ryan Beamish is second in slugging (.703), 10th in hits (34), first in RBI (40) and first in home runs (11). Landon Silver ranks third in slugging (.689), second in RBI (37) and third in home runs (10).

Logan Workman, the top MLB pitching prospect in NCAA D2, has lived up to his billing on the mound. The ace of the staff is first in the GSC in ERA (0.72), opposing batting average (.126), and hits allowed (16). He is third in strikeouts (64) and fifth in wins (4). Andy Rivera is the nation and conference leader in saves with eight and Seth Konkel is third in the conference in ERA (2.18) and hits allowed (25), seventh in opposing batting average (.219) and fifth in wins (4).
