As students combat homesickness while settling back into campus life, the Lee Clarion staff shares their favorite songs to listen to when they need a small reminder of home.

“Touching Heaven” by Johnny Swim

“It’s just a warm song with a catchy beat. I imagine swaying around to it with my family as we are having a cookout in our backyard. I even imagine myself singing the melody with my future husband as we cook dinner or clean or home. The line ‘If touching love is touching God No wonder I’m in heaven, when I’m holding you’ leaves me starstruck every time. How lucky are we to experience a love that’s heaven sent?” - Jada Camille, Senior Reporter

“Tapestry” by Bruno Major

“I guess through the softer sound and production from this track it kind of reminds me of looking through things in my mind during my youth, which feels very home-y.” - Chris Vega, Senior Photographer

“Navrai Maajhi” by various artists

“This song reminds me of dancing with my mom.”- Amulya Chalapathy, Social Media Manager.

“Tennessee” by Lizzy LeBleu

“Although I’m from Colorado, I chose this song because every time I listen to it, it perfectly captures how I feel about Tennessee. It has been my home for the past three years, and I can’t imagine having gotten the chance to grow up and become my own person anywhere else.” - Shannon Clark, Life Editor

“Still the One” by Orleans

“It is a quaint love song with a comforting message and a lot of energy.”- Harrison McCroskey, Copy Editor.

“Wishing Well” by Blink-182

“I was obsessed with blink when I was growing up. It reminds me of the awkwardness of trying to fit in during my formative years” - Dawson Reed, Sports Editor

“So Will I” by Ben Platt

“I really like listening to it when I’m feeling down or having a bad day. It’s just a reminder that everything is gonna be okay in the end, and that people will always be there for me no matter what.” - Riley Latham, Layout Designer

“Canyon Moon” by Harry Styles

“I’m from a more secluded town in Tennessee with a lot of nature spots. This song reminds me of my drives home and seeing all the beautiful views.” - Rhianna Barrow, Senior Photographer.

“Sunday Candy” by Donnue Trumpet & The Social Experiment

“This song can make me happy no matter where I am, what I’m doing or what mood I am in. I feel like I was born knowing the lyrics. I can’t remember a time where this wasn’t my go-to which makes it feel like home.” - Shay Maclean, Senior Photographer.

“Old Time Rock & Roll” by Bob Seger

“This song never fails to make me think of home. I grew up listening to rock ‘n’ roll music from the ‘80s with my parents, and it’s still one of my favorite genres of music.” - Anna Shand, News Editor

“Don’t Forget Where You Belong” by One Direction

“Nothing says ‘home’ to me like geeking about boy bands with my closest friends while on a car ride to nowhere.” - Annie Youther, Senior Reporter

“Rhinestone Cowboy” by Glen Campbell

“This song reminds me of truck rides with my granddad and growing up in the Enchanted Valley.” - Ashley Smith, Editor-in-Chief

“My Tennessee Mountain Home” by Dolly Parton

“I feel like we need some Dolly if the theme is ‘home,’ and it was her birthday month, and she’s saving the world and all.” - Professor Kim Lyon, Faculty Advisor
