1. Closing arguments begin at Rittenhouse trial

This morning, closing arguments began at the Kyle Rittenhouse murder trial. The prosecutors are still questioning whether Rittenhouse was there to help the night he showed up in Kenosha with a rifle during a protest against racial injustice, reports AP News.

Prosecutor Thomas Binger argues Rittenhouse had no connection to the business he said he was going to protect; he ran around with an AR-style semi-automatic rifle and lied about being an emergency medical technician.

Rittenhouse faces life in prison if convicted of the most serious charge against him, first-degree intentional homicide.

2. Three arrested after Liverpool car explosion

Police in the UK arrested three young men after a car explosion killed one person and left another injured near a hospital in Liverpool, reports London CNN.

“Officers in Merseyside have arrested three men — aged 29, 26 & 21 — in the Kensington area of Liverpool under the Terrorism Act,” Great Manchester Police tweeted Sunday.

Local and counter-terrorism police are investigating Sunday’s fatal explosion outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital in northwest England.

“So far, we understand that the car involved was a taxi which pulled up at the hospital shortly before the explosion occurred,” said a statement from police.

“My thoughts are with all those affected by the awful incident in Liverpool today. I want to thank the emergency services for their quick response and professionalism and the police for their ongoing work on the investigation,” said Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

3. Pilot rescued from sinking plane on Florida’s coast

Federal agents conducted an air rescue of a man standing atop a sinking plane on the coast of Florida. The plane crashed into the water off Cedar Key, about a hundred miles north of Tampa along Florida’s Gulf Coast Tuesday, reports CNN.

“As agents and deputies approached the sinking plane, an individual was spotted climbing out and standing on the fuselage. Agents verified the pilot was the only occupant and were able to assist him on board an AMO (Air and Marine Operations) Coastal Interceptor Vessel,” said the US Customs and Border Protections in a statement on Friday.
