Peaceful Within – Part III – The social dimension of wellness
The university campus is one of the most social environments there is. This is where most students will establish their lifelong friendships. Getting started is a little difficult. Most of us don’t want to be rejected, so we stay in our comfort zone and don’t venture out too far.
How many students have actually introduced themselves to everyone in each class they attend? We could even ask how many students know the people that sit in front, back and on each side of them in class. Just that one exercise alone of meeting those four people in each class could encourage an individual to expand one’s social dimension of wellness.
An important component in developing the social dimension of wellness is the ability to interact successfully with one another. “ Successfully” is the key word. This requires a great deal of respect and tolerance for those around us. We are so blessed on this campus to have representatives from all over the world.
It is a wonderful time to learn about different cultures, to reach out to others and truly show the love of Christ. In John 13:35 we are told, “By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Praying for one another is also an important factor to consider when developing your social dimension of wellness. Start with your roommates. When praying for others, there is genuine concern for their well being and it will just spill over in the day-to-day interactions.
The Lord will bring people in your path with whom you will develop close, loving relationships that you will treasure forever. You will be truly blessed!
