Five places to see while you’re here

Five places to see while you’re here

Lee Day is an exciting time for the university’s campus as students, faculty and staff welcome visitors from all over to Cleveland.

While there will be a lot of things for visitors to do on campus, there will be a lot of enjoyable things to do and see off-campus as well. For those adventurers who are looking to roam off-campus and get a taste of the local area, here are some ideas of places to start.

1. Downtown Cleveland eateries - If you’re looking for a bite to eat and enjoy the “Mom and Pop” atmosphere, downtown Cleveland is rich with dining opportunities that will leave you satisfied. Some places to consider, located just blocks away from Lee’s campus, include Gardner’s Market (262 Broad St), The Spot (45 N. Ocoee St), or Earl’s (260 Broad St).

2. The Greenway - This meandering walkway, weaving throughout the city of Cleveland, provides for a little exercise and a view of the town while enjoying the beauty of nature. It can be seen from the intersection of Keith and 25th streets, running alongside Mouse Creek.

3. Perkit Yogurt - After a fresh lunch and a brisk walk down the Greenway, you might be ready for a little dessert. If this is indeed the case, try Perkit Yogurt, located just off the Greenway’s beaten path at 3306 Keith St, next door to Gondolier Pizza.

4. Hamilton Place Mall - If you are curious enough to venture outside of Cleveland, than Hamilton Place mall might be an excellent destination. Located just off of Exit 5 on Shallowford Road, it offers a wide variety of shopping for the novice and veteran shoppers alike.

5. The Walking Bridge - Also known as the Walnut Street Bridge, this historical piece of architecture is a familiar haunt of many Lee students and local residents alike. Built approximately 115 years ago, the bridge is located just off of Walnut street in downtown Chattanooga.

While these few options do not capture the entire essence of the area, they will hopefully give visitors a chance to get out and enjoy some of the local recreational activities. Enjoy!
