Peaceful Living Series - Part IV - The physical dimension of wellness
The physical dimension of wellness encompasses numerous topics. Basically, it is the ability to carry out our daily tasks without undue fatigue. Physical wellness means we must try to pursue the health related components in a positive manner. These components include cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance and a healthy body composition. We also need to maintain adequate nutrition, avoid abusing alcohol and other drugs and avoid using tobacco products. It is generally investing in positive lifestyle habits. This doesn’t happen overnight. Nor does it come in a bottle.
Dr. Chuck Corbin shares what he calls the HELP Philosophy. HELP is an acronym that stands for:
Heath is for Everyone for a Lifetime and its Personal.
Health – People who believe in the benefits of healthy lifestyles are more likely to engage in healthy behaviors.
Everyone – Healthy lifestyles can be practiced by everyone.
Lifetime – The longer healthy lifestyles are practiced, the greater the beneficial effects.
Personal – Each person must assess personal needs and make lifestyles changes based on those needs.
First of all, begin engaging in regular physical activity. Walking is a great exercise. Be sure to speed it up a little in order to get your heart pumping and try to walk thirty minutes a day. Try your best to eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Don’t try to do too much too soon, or you might want to give up. Introduce one healthy behavior at a time.
Just remember, “Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit”. Let us try to take care of this wonderful body the Lord has given us in order that we might serve Him in a mighty way.
