Annual Career Fair coming to Lee

Annual Career Fair coming to Lee

The Center for Calling and Career will host its annual Career Fair for all current Lee undergraduate and graduate students. Lee alumni are also welcome.

The event is aimed at providing students of all majors with the chance to meet and talk with potential employers.

Stacy Ballinger, assistant director at the Center for Calling and Career, is organizing the Career Fair. While the event is open to all students, she notes that attending is particularly beneficial for those nearing graduation.

“This is a great starting point for seniors seeking immediate job prospects to have one-on-one time with recruiters,” Ballinger said.

The Career Fair is also valuable for juniors who want to learn more about available internships or on-the-job training.

Thirty to forty businesses are expected to be present at the event. These employers will cover a wide range of career options. Students can find opportunities for employment in business, communications, government and social services, as well as openings in the financial and medical fields.

Job-seekers can gain experience presenting themselves to professionals and speaking about their education and skill levels. Familiarizing students with the interview process is one of the main objectives of the Career Fair.

“This is an ideal place to practice professional conversations and introductions with recruiters from independent fields of study,” Ballinger said.

It is strongly recommended that all attendees dress professionally and bring 5 to 10 copies of their resume to give to recruiters. Students will be able to personally submit those resumes and discuss different job openings that employers have available.

• Come dressed in professional business attire.
• Bring five to 10 copies of your resume.
• Treat this as the first interview with potential employers.

Ballinger stressed that being prepared increases students’ chances of landing a full-time or part-time job.

“It would be best for upper classmen to arrive interview ready as this will be the initial screening for many companies,” Ballinger said.

Students can visit the Center for Calling and Career for help with their resumes and cover letters. The staff encourages anyone interested to set up an appointment with a career counselor to receive feedback and advice. The center has also set up a job board where employers can post current job openings.

The Career Fair will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the DeVos Recreational Center from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
