SIFE offers financial seminar

Students in Free Enterprise is hosting a free financial literacy program called Financial Peace University.

The 10-week seminar uses the material of financial expert Dave Ramsey and is aimed at giving young adults Ramsey’s signature “total money makeover.” The goal of Financial Peace University is to help participants make smart financial decisions, become better money managers and gain financial freedom.

The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students at Lee, as well as their spouses and friends. People of all financial backgrounds are encouraged to attend, from the financially secure to the severely in debt.

Jamaul Joseph, Financial Peace University coordinator and Lee SIFE vice president, notes that the course offers skills that can prove beneficial to students planning for the future.

“The program teaches you various techniques as to how to make more money. Not only that, it is empowering and it inspires you to apply what you have learned,” Joseph said.

This is the second time Lee SIFE has hosted this seminar. Financial Peace University was offered last fall and was met with a positive response.

“We knew that we had to have another program because of the overwhelming interest we had last semester,” Joseph said.

Plans are already being made for Lee SIFE to host Financial Peace University again due to great turnout they have had.

Joseph notes that the seminar provides a service that Lee SIFE members feel is important with the high amount of debt in today’s society.

“This program is our way of helping to curb the debt crisis that has paralyzed so many Americans,” Joseph said.

Classes began on Monday Feb. 11 and will continue to meet on Monday evenings in the Humanities Center for the remainder of the 10 weeks. However there are still a few seats left. To reserve your seat and workbook, email your name and contact information to Joseph at jamaul@leesife.org. Space is limited, so students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
