Lee launches new catalog

Lee launches new catalog

Over the past few years the administration has been constantly working to improve the Lee campus and make sure it is outfitted with the latest technologies.

This year they are taking that initiative yet another step further by preparing to launch a new interactive catalog.

This new catalog will make it much easier for students and faculty to access and update the classes and programs.

Currently if someone needs to look something up in the catalog, they would have to track down a copy somewhere, then search through the book to find what they were looking for.

With this new web-based catalog anyone can access the catalog from any computer that is connected to the Internet.

“It will allow students immediate access to the catalog from any computer to versions that will be constantly up-to-date,” said Michael McDivitt, a student worker who has been working on the project.

The catalog will be organized into sections similar to the ones in the current print catalog but will introduce many new aspects that simply weren’t possible with a print catalog.

Browsers will be able to use a keyword search to find what they are looking for instead of leafing through hundreds of pages until they find the information. Users will also be able to link to other sites and information directly from the catalog.

For example, a student who wants more information about a class listed in the catalog can email the professor who teaches the class by simply clicking a link in the catalog.

Students will also be able to create their own accounts and chart their educational plans while browsing the catalog.

“As a student, I think this is going to make registration and everything incredibly easier,” McDivitt said.

With the new system will come an constantly up-to-date catalog.

Faculty and administration will be able to edit the interactive catalog as soon as changes are made. This means that students will no longer have to wait for next year’s catalog to come out to access the most updated information.
This does not mean, however, that the print catalog will be done away with.

The school will still publish a print catalog, however it will be smaller and very basic with nothing but the essential information.

Therefore, not only will this new system be more convenient, but it will also save the school a large amount of money by reducing printing costs.
