As a part of the “Press Toward the Mark” campaign, the new Science and Math building construction is underway.

Though digital renderings have been released to show what the outside of the building will look like, the Lee Clarion is the first to release the 73,000 square foot building’s floor plan.

The building will be larger than the Humanities Building which offers 55,000 square feet of space.

The three story building will be built in two parts, the first with faculty offices and lab rooms and classrooms. The expected completion date for this portion is Fall 2009.

The second phase of the process will include the demolition of the the Beach Building, expected to begin May 2009.

The architect for the project, Cope Associates, Inc. is a team out of Knoxville.

The group has worked on projects for higher education facilities such as Bristol University, Carson Newman and East Tennessee State University.

The completed building will include a student capacity of 790 seats, 14 classrooms, 10 labs, a 150-seat lecture hall, a seminar room, two lobby areas, a student lounge and commons, 11 storage rooms, five tech rooms, a faculty workroom, bathrooms on each floor and a receiving dock. The building will add an additional 68 parking spaces to campus.
