Remembering 9/11: Cry out America
Today Bradley County is set to join 3,141 counties across the nation at their respective courthouses to focus on a time of prayer and reflection.
The event, on the seventh anniversary of 9/11, is meant as a time of focused prayer and reflection for lost friends and family as well as for the spiritual condition of our nation.
The Awakening America Alliance started the initiative for the event. The group describes itself as a “cooperative initiative within the body of Christ to increase awareness of the deep spiritual need in today’s America and to pursue a new Christ awakening in our nation that will impact our world.”
Citizens will meet during the lunch hour from noon - 1 p.m. in front of the Bradley County Court House in downtown Cleveland.
In order to accompany student needs, Lee University has joined the cause and will open the Conn Center during the same time to offer students a place for prayer.
“We understand that many of our students will not be able to join in that celebration,” Campus Pastor Jimmy Harper said. “This will simply be a drop-in prayer time in which students can join us for any part or the entire time frame.”
The Awakening America Alliance’s website explained the reason for the event in detail: “On September 11, 2008 our nation will pause to remember the greatest ‘wake-up’ call in our generation, the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01. As part of Awakening America, a call is being issued for Christians across the nation to mark this significant day in our history with powerful prayer for America and the lost individuals of this country.”
