Events provide reminder of Lee
During Lee University’s 2008 Homecoming celebration, students, alumni and guests can enjoy a whole host of events.
Beginning today and continuing into the weekend, events will commemorate the history of Lee.
The Office of Alumni Relations said that this weekend promises to be an exciting gathering.
Reunions
Graduating classes of 1968, ’78, ’88 and ’98 plan to meet Friday evening for a reunion. Each class will enjoy dinner, music and some will even have games.
A legacy reunion is also scheduled for Friday evening for alumni from the graduating classes of 1918 to 1965.
This is the first year Lee will be holding a reception for the Young Alumni Torch Society. It will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. The reception, open to graduates from the last seven years, is exclusive to those who have contributed to the Alumni Fund for two consecutive years.
Also reuniting, the 1999 study-abroad trip to Cambridge will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Leonard Center.
Athletic Events
Lee’s athletic teams will help celebrate Homecoming weekend with an array of games for alumni and students to attend.
Events will include the Flames basketball game on Thursday, the Lady Flames soccer game and the Lady Flames volleyball game on Friday.
The “Volley for a Cure” game is an annual event for Lee’s Lady Flames Volleyball team. This is the second year they have taken the court to raise money for Breast Cancer.
Raising money for the Mary Ellen Locher Foundation, the team hopes to pack the stands with pink. They will have a silent auction during the game and sell t-shirts all week in hopes of reaching their $10,000 goal.
To celebrate Lee athletes, there will be an Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday at 5 p.m. in the Centenary Room.
Anniversaries
Celebrating anniversaries is a big part of Homecoming. This year many groups are commemorating their years at Lee.
Lee’s Student Leadership Council celebrates 10 years, the Lee Singers celebrate 45 years and the Evangelistic Singers celebrate 40 years.
Greek Clubs Epsilon Lambda Phi and Alpha Gamma Chi celebrate their 20th and 45th anniversaries, respectively.
Helping to celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Evangelistic Singers is performing at the Music Festival hosted by the School of Music as part of Homecoming weekend.
Showcasing the instrumental and vocal ensembles of Lee, the festival will be on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Lee Singers will also be performing in celebration of its 45th anniversary.
Theatre Production
Guests and students will have a chance to attend the drama production “Trojan Women,” presented by the Communication and the Arts Department.
Telling the story of devastation caused by the Trojan War and the women who exhibited a spirit of fortitude in the midst of tragedy, the play will be performed in the Dixon Center every night at 7:30 p.m., plus a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.
