Diversity, Not Bias

Diversity, Not Bias

I have noticed a bias in this year’s Lee Clarion. While I agree with the article written by Dr. Bayles, I feel like Dr. Brown’s article missed the point. While I agree with him when he said it is good to have a liberal viewpoint, he failed to mention one thing: the paper should also have a conservative view point.

Reading the Lee Clarion this year I have been angered many times. I feel like the paper can do better with its diversity. There are many conservative students willing to write for the paper, but sadly I have not seen one in the Lee Clarion.

Focusing on the issues is a big deal, especially with the young minds that read the Lee Clarion. While I have read countless articles bashing Senator McCain and Gov. Palin, I have only heard positives about Senator Obama. While I could say countless reasons why I do not support Obama; that is not my intent for this letter. I only wish to plead for the Lee Clarion to take on a conservative writer so that the students may hear both sides of the argument.

I find it funny how the negative articles are attacking every little thing that thing that the McCain-Palin ticket do, and then the liberal writers will say that bashing is wrong and that the issues need to be looked at. They are guilty of the thing in which they speak.

Dr. Brown said, “Our job as thinking voters is to recognize the bias on both sides…” Well, I agree but I feel like the readers of the Lee Clarion need be able to hear both sides.

Hope Goad said in her article that the Republican nominees are lying to the people. That’s what politicians do. Obama has done it. So has McCain. You can’t, as a newspaper, fixate on just one side of the lying. I would be glad in the future to point out the misleading facts by the Obama campaign if needed.

As a conservative myself, I would like to see my view on politics shown in the Lee Clarion.  I really do think that both sides of the story should be told. I have no problems with the writers or the editors. I only wish to get the conservative viewpoint across so the students can decide for themselves instead of having the Lee Clarion do it for them.
