Lady Flames inspire peace
The Lee University women’s basketball team is striving to bring love, joy and peace this holiday season. But this isn’t Christmas, it’s Valentine’s Day. The holiday created for celebrating love through overpriced candy, flowers and cards is now hoping to be used by the women’s basketball team to inspire another type of love: love for those who have struggled with or survived breast cancer. The Lady Flames have put together a Pink Night to raise money and awareness for the disease, and what better day to represent it than Valentine’s Day, the most pink day of the year.
“We are just excited that we can do something to raise awareness about breast cancer,” said assistant coach Mindy Kiser. “Hopefully we can pack the place with pink!
Pink Night will happen during the women’s basketball game on Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. against Southern Polytechnic State. Fans who come are encouraged to sport the official t-shirt of “Think Pink,” which is on sale in the student union during the day or also at Lee University men’s and women’s basketball games. The t-shirt is ten dollars and comes with a pink bracelet as well. All proceeds will be donated to the “Think Pink” fund. Also the pink jerseys that both the Southern Polytechnic State Hornets and the Lady Flames wear during their warm-ups will be auctioned off with, again, all proceeds going to the “Think Pink” fund.
Not only will coming out to the game lend support to a good cause, but it will also be a great chance to see some awesome basketball. The Lady Flames basketball team is currently ranked number two in the country and looks to have incredible success in the remainder of the season. All the remaining games are incredibly vital in the continuing success of the Lady Flames and the support of loyal fans only helps bring energy to the game. So come out to “Think Pink” night and bring your date or your family and helps support Breast Cancer Awareness!
