After dropping only one regular season conference game, the Lee Flames won the Southern States Athletics Conference tournament over the weekend, hosted at Paul Dana Walker Arena.

The first game of the tournament for the Flames was a fairly easy win over Southern Wesleyan University. Freddie Williams led the team with 19 points. The Flames coasted to the next round, winning 98-73.

In the semi-final round, Shorter College couldn’t stop the shooting frenzy of the Flames. Williams led in scoring again with 18 points. Kellen Pickle put in 15 points and five steals in the late breaking win. Shorter played hard but came up short and lost 94-70. The Flames then readied for Emmanuel in the final.

In a streaky game that seemed almost over one minute and too tight the next, the Flames had an all around great performance from the whole team. All-tournament team standouts Elmar Kuli-Zade and Harold Griffin both put out solid efforts to help secure the 92-79 win.

Williams was honored with conference tournament MVP. He led Lee in scoring in each of their three games. “I think our team played great in the conference tournament. The team came together and showed off the defense that we know and love to play,” Williams said.
