Women’s basketball poised for final push
Last weekend, the Lady Flames faced one of their toughest opponents in a thrilling matchup against Berry College in the SSAC Tournament. Holding a 32-14 lead at halftime, and leaving a very good Berry team stunned, the Flames proceeded to close the deal in the second half by notching 53 points for a final score of 85-55.
Lee women procured the SSAC tournament title for the second consecutive time and advance to nationals in the NAIA division. The Lady Flames now hold the new record for wins in a season with an astounding 31. With 26 straight wins since their loss to Freed-Hardeman on Nov. 17, 2007, Lee looks poised to do damage at the National Tournament.
Senior Aaron Richmond was honorably voted the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. She played off the bench for Lee was an asset and made the difference in the tournament wins.
Scoring was led by freshman Brooke McKinnon with 15. Closely following McKinnon were sophomores Katie Nelson with 13, Jan Dodson with 12, Richmond with 11. Other contributors were Jessica Still with 9, Fallon Lee with 8, Kayce Addison with 7, and Lauren Brett with 6. Scoring was a balanced effort in the championship win.
Defense by the Lee Flames was also on point. The Flames held Berry’s Mickey Duncan to an astounding 8 points. Steals were also prevalent in the defensive attack launched by Lee.
