Volleyball set to deliver in 2008

Only two words can describe the Lady Flames volleyball team: on fire! With a number of early wins in the books, it is clear that these ladies are ready for more.

The season started out with a scrimmage against the NCAA Division II team Carson-Newman, and the Lady Flames took the victory. The girls proved to have excellent teamwork and impressive strength.

The first regular season play came in Dayton, Tenn., where the Flames put up three wins in a row against Bryan College, Colorado Christian and the #25-ranked Mt. Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).

Against Bryan and Colorado Christian, the wins had the same margin of 3-0. In the opening match against Bryan, the Lady Flames beat the Lady Lions 25-17, 25-16 and 28-26. Freshmen Stephanie Todd and Kelsey Leffew really came in and made names for themselves.

The second round win against Colorado Christian came with a score of 25-20, 25-26 and 28-26. Tina Questel came in with 10 kills.

The final match against Mt. Vernon proved to be a hard-fought match for the Lady Flames in a 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 18-25, 15-9 victory.

The Flames continued their success in the game against Shorter College. They won in 3-1 sets with Tina Questel coming in again with 15 kills and the SSAC player of the week, Milica Krsmanovic, coming in with 11 kills.

“I am really excited about coaching these young ladies because they are excited about playing as well,” Coach Andrea Hudson said.

The Lee University women’s volleyball team looks to be set up for a great 2008 season. With their hard work and determination it looks like a trip to the national championship could be in order.
