Coach’s Seat with John Maupin

Coach’s Corner

1) How long have you been the golf coach here?

I have been the golf coach here at Lee University for about three months.

2) Whats the team’s biggest accomplishment since you have been the coach.

Well, since I have only been here three months and we haven’t had a chance to
play in a tournament yet, I would have to say the team’s biggest accomplishment has
been getting up and working out together at 6:30 a.m.. Again, that’s kind of a joke
because we haven’t had a chance to play yet.

3) Where did you play golf in college?

I played my college golf at Berry College in Rome, GA. I was all-conference and
all-region during my time there.

4) Did you play any other sports in high school or college?

I have played a little bit of everything at some point or another. I am kind of
a sports fanatic. I especially love college athletics. I am a really big
basketball fan, so I am really looking forward to watching both the men’s and
women’s teams play here at Lee. Buy I really love most all sports and I keep up
with it a lot.

5) How long have you personally been playing golf?

I have been playing golf competitively since I was about 10 years old, so for
the last 14 years. When I was younger I really got involved in the game through my
Dad. He played golf at Cleveland State and Tennessee Tech, and after that he had a
successful amateur career.

6) What is your biggest career achievement?

My biggest career achievement in terms of playing is probably getting to play in
3 national championships and making the all-region team. But as far as achievements
in my professional career I think getting this head coaching job at such an early
time in my life and getting to work with a lot of wonderful coaches and work for a
great administration is way up there on the list.

7) What is your goal for this year’s team?

It sounds a little cliché but my goals for both teams is that they work
extremely hard and do all of the little things during the course of the year that
will make us successful once the postseason starts. I believe that both of these
teams are capable of reaching their potential, and that could equal some great
results.
