Coach’s Seat with Amanda Harkins

Q: How long have you been the assistant coach for the women’s soccer team?
A: I am in my third year at Lee as the assistant women’s soccer coach.

Q: What high school sports did you play?
A: In high school I played just about everything. I played basketball and soccer, ran track and did gymnastics.

Q: How did you first become interested in soccer?
A: The tradition of soccer runs in my family. When I was in middle and high school, my cousins played soccer at the University of Kentucky. We would go to the games and I would get really excited about the game. My older brother also played soccer in school, so I guess it was just by default that I played as well.

Q: What has been your favorite moment in coaching at Lee?
A: My favorite moment coaching at Lee has to be my first year as a coach when the team played in the championship game in the National Tournament. Unfortunately, we lost that game, but it was still inspiring to be in the final game of the tournament.

Q: Who do you consider your sports hero?
A: I have several sports figures that I respect such as Michael Phelps, Kim Zmeskal, Roger Federer and Dana Ponds, to name a few.

Q: What is your favorite sports movie?
A: Rudy.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
A: Does anyone know where they will be in ten years? I try not to plan that far ahead because God always has ways of showing us His will, and often it is not what we see for ourselves.
