Unity Dance Troupe has annually performed “Scrooge” based on Charles Dickens’ novel “A Christmas Carol” for three years but tweaked the show this year, creating a unique experience for attendees. Unity has adapted “Scrooge” into a Broadway-style production featuring original musical compositions, live instrumentals, dance and acting.
This November was the 29th Native American Heritage Month since 1992 when President George H. W. Bush designated the month as the first “National American Indian Heritage Month.” This year, the Museum Center at 5ive Points, located in downtown Cleveland, hosted a variety of exhibits to honor the rich culture of the Ocoee region.
After last year’s virtual program, Lee University plans to return to a live, in-person Classic Christmas event on Dec. 5, featuring music ensembles from campus.
On Oct. 28, Lee students wore shades of green in advocacy for cerebral palsy. Hope Feil, a freshman youth ministry major at Lee who is a part of the cerebral palsy community and passionate about giving cerebral palsy students a voice, started this student-led initiative.
While Lee University students and faculty prepare for final exams, Director of Event Planning Marbi DiPastena begins spreading the Christmas spirit on campus. This is DiPastena’s first year leading the planning and operations behind transforming Lee’s buildings into festive displays.
As Christmas approaches, Lee’s campus is being decorated with bows, wreaths and lights. Director of Event Planning Marbi DiPastena leads the festive display with the help of Physical Plant, Nooga Lights and Delta Zeta Tau volunteers.
On Nov. 8, higher education institutions across the country celebrated first-generation college students. Lee University kicked off their week of events for First-Gen Week on Monday with a celebration day virtual panel.
Until this year, Choral Union functioned as a required ensemble for music majors and minors; however, under the leadership of first-year faculty member and Assistant Professor of Choral Music Dr. Cameron Weatherford, Choral Union aims to be a meaningful choral experience and an inclusive community for music and non-music students alike.
This semester, the Asian Council is expanding their reach at Lee with the help of new faculty sponsors and members. The council has grown in members and is motivated to make it a safe place for all students. Being connected with Lee students through events and conversations is a priority for the council. They meet on Thursdays at 7:15 p.m. in Humanities 101.
For the past three years, Lee Boxing club has hosted Night of Champions by bringing together Greek clubs to compete in the ring. The competitors have been training at Five Point Boxing in preparation for the event. The event will be held during Homecoming weekend, and is open to all students and faculty.
On Thursday, Nov. 4, the Homecoming weekend kicked off with Night of Champions. Hosted by the Lee Boxing Club in the Mayfield Annex gym, the night featured five fights between Greek club members and other Lee University clubs.
Imago Dei, a student-led movement based on curating intentional conversations, celebrated its one-year anniversary last week. Imago Dei began as inspiration shared between three students — Kat Lange, Dhuranique “Dhu” Ferguson and David Williams — who saw the need for change and an opportunity for Lee to grow.
On Monday night, Oct. 25, Dorm Wars returned to Lee’s campus. The night featured a couch parade, new obstacles for the teams and the return of traditional challenges. The on-campus residential dorms competed in several challenges to claim victory for their dorm and win money for nonprofit organizations in the local community.
Dorm Wars is returning to Walker Arena tonight at 8 p.m., creating an uproar of anticipation for campus housing. Many resident directors, resident assistants and students will experience Dorm Wars for the first time due to COVID-19 preventing the event last year.
While teaching classes at Lee University, some professors continue their education by pursuing a doctorate. Many professors juggle maintaining a family, social life and teaching while pursuing their doctoral degrees.
As Fall Break 2021 commences, many students are preparing to travel while others stay in Cleveland. The Cleveland and Chattanooga areas offer a variety local festivities for students staying in town during the break.
National Hispanic Heritage month, a celebration meant to pay tribute to the history, culture and descendants of relatives from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America, is celebrated from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. The Leetinos club and the Mosaic Council recently came together to celebrate the representation of Hispanic culture within Lee’s community at Culture Fest on Sept. 24.
As students arrived back to school this semester, the sophomore class received a special invitation to join a new experience at Lee University. This experience aims to support students in engaging in their community.
Due to COVID-19 protocols and safety measures last school year, many ensembles and choirs could not travel; however, this fall, they are preparing to tour again and expecting ministry opportunities ahead.
This fall, Lee welcomed 11 new full-time faculty professors to the university. From various backgrounds, each new professor specializes in a different area of study and has chosen to commit themselves to an institution of Christ-centered teaching.
