Men's Flames golf is back as they dust off their clubs and hit the course to start the 2016 spring season on Monday, Feb. 29.

The men's team has nine strong golfers this year and look to do really well this season as it is their first competing in Division II of the NCAA.

In 2015, the Flames won the conference tournament by 10 shots, however, they unfortunately were ineligible for the regional tournament because Lee had not completed the transition into the NCAA.

Head Coach John Maupin feels confident entering 2016 with the experience from the returning golfers on the team.

"All the guys that were in our top seven or eight are back this year,' Maupin said.

Maupin described senior Taylor Davis, senior Peyton Sliger and junior Flame Shea Sylvester as a 'three headed monster' due to the consistent high level of play all three have shown for years.

"I know everybody is excited and hungry for this season,' Sliger said. 'We have an extremely talented team with a lot of experience and we can go as far as we allow ourselves to. As long as we stick to the process, we will have great success."

Maupin has no doubt in his team's ability, he said his responsibility is getting every player ready mentally to show their fullest potential on every shot.

"Most of our stuff is getting them in the right mindset,' Maupin said. 'It's just consistency. We are trying to get nine guys at their best every day.'
