Terra Running Company to put on Cleveland’s Thanksgiving Day 5k
CLEVELAND, Tenn. – According to Running USA, Thanksgiving Day is the most popular day to run a race in the United States. There are “turkey trots” all over the country, including one right here in Cleveland, Tennessee.
Before you pile your plate with turkey, casserole, or pumpkin pie, you can get your daily exercise at Cleveland's Thanksgiving Day 5k, on Nov. 27.

This event is hosted by Terra Running Company, a local store that carries running shoes and other athletic and outdoor gear. The run started in 2016, when the store first came to Cleveland, according to Tiffany Skinner, manager at Terra Running Company.
Terra Running Company is expecting at least 600 participants, and those who register may get a prize. The first 600 people to register will receive a Thanksgiving Day 5k beanie hat. The first 400 to register will receive a special sealed envelope. If the participant brings the envelope, unopened, to the Terra Running Company store on Black Friday weekend, they will receive a prize. The prize could be anything from a sticker to a new pair of shoes.
For those who do not want to run the full 5k, there will be an untimed one mile fun run.
Terra Running Company is partnering with Chattanooga Area Food Bank this November, to “Stuff the Terra Van.” Terra Running Company hopes to use the 5k to bring attention to the food bank, so that participants may stop by the store to donate, or make a donation online.
“All the food donated will stay here in Bradley County, and then they work with the caring place. And so that's just even though we're putting on the race … we're [also] asking people to bring food donations here in the store all throughout the month of November,” Skinner said.
The store is happy to host this opportunity for families, or individuals to come run and make Thanksgiving Day memories.
“People are coming in from all over the place to visit family, and a lot of people have been doing this for years .. We love getting to offer that as a memory for families to come and enjoy time together. Get a little activity before you stuff your face for Thanksgiving,” said Skinner.
Participants can register online until Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 7 a.m. After this time, registration will only be available in-store at Terra Running Company on Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on the day of the race, at Greenway Park, from 7-7:45 a.m.
Terra Running Company is located at 90 N Ocoee St, Cleveland, TN 37311.
The run will take place at Greenway Park, located at 775 Raider Dr. NW Cleveland, TN.
The 5k starts at 8 a.m., and the one mile fun run starts at 8:15 a.m.
The registration fee for the fun-run is $20 until Nov. 13, and $25 until the day of the race. For the 5k, the fee is $30 until Nov. 13, and $35 until the day of the race.
