Birmingham Boys Choir to perform, teach workshop

The Lee University School of Music will host the Birmingham Boys Choir as a part of their performing arts series on Sunday, April 10, at 4 p.m.

The choir is directed by artist and composer Ken Burg, and will perform famous secular and sacred songs, such as 'The National Anthem,' and 'Amazing Grace.'

Founded in 1973, the Birmingham Boys Choir features young men from more than 35 schools in the greater Birmingham area. Each year, the group tours both in the United States and overseas, performing in churches, concert halls, schools and other organizations.

On Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12, Berg will stay and speak in a variety of classes in Lee's School of Music, drawing on his nearly 40 years of experience as an educator, conductor and church musician.

A choral workshop will also occur on Monday, April 11 at 3 p.m. in Room 223 in the Curtsinger Music Building. At 6 p.m., there will be a rehearsal demonstration choir, featuring the Lee University Children's and Lake Forest Middle School Choirs in the Curtsinger choral rehearsal room.

'The different musical styles featured in our performing art series focuses on the diversity found in liberal arts,' Director of Music Events Kristi Vanoy said. 'We like to offer a variety of different musical styles.'

The event is ticketed, but free to both students and the public. To reserve tickets, visit the Lee University box office located in the Communication Arts building or call (423) 614-8343.
