Brief: Men’s soccer to compete in conference championship

The Lee University men’s soccer team will be competing in the conference championship this week, kicking off Tuesday night against Christian Brothers. The Flames are currently ranked 4th in the GSC heading into the tournament.

The season has been a challenge for the team, but according to Head Coach Derek Potteiger, the challenge has helped the team grow and improve throughout the season.

“We find ourselves at a good place right now heading into the postseason,” said Potteiger. “We have had lots of great moments but also times where we had to learn and grow, and this group has stayed committed to the process the whole year.”

Coach Potteiger has also been preparing for the tournament and expressed his excitement to watch the team compete, saying the postseason has a different feel than the regular season.

“I think all of us associated with the program are excited to get things underway,” said Potteiger.

Looking toward the tournament has brought a lot of excitement and expectations that the team hopes to meet. The pressure during the season has only helped the team as they make their journey through the postseason.

“We felt some pressure during the season to get here and put ourselves in a good place for the playoffs,” said Potteiger. “But it’s about going out and enjoying these games in all the right ways.”

The Flames will play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Lee University for the first round of the championship tournament.
