Everything to know about convocation
A time of worship and learning about the Lord in community, and a time for fellowship – Fall convocation offers all this and more for the entire student body to experience together. Sunday evening worship . marks the official start to this semester’s convocation week. From Sunday night worship to Communion chapel on Thursday morning, the upcoming week brings the expectation to not only be a time of growth but a time for change in the lives of students, faculty, and staff on Lee’s campus.
Each convocation night will start with worship by LeeU Worship and Jonathan Sawyer, LeeU Worship director. All of the convocation speakers are Lee alumni and, other than the president, members of the university board of directors.
The week of services will kick off Sunday in the Conn Center chapel with preaching from Lee President Dr. Phil Cook. Following the service, there will be a “Post-Convo Mixer,” in the PCSU from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., hosted by the Campus Activities Board. This time of fellowship will have pizza, drinks, and Kona Ice as refreshments and is open to all students for free.
Night two of convocation will be led byKevin McGlamery, head pastor at North Cleveland Church of God. Shortly after the service, there is an opportunity for “Pancakes and Pals,” hosted by and at the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM). From 9 to 10:30 p.m., those who wish to enjoy pancakes with the BCM can find them at 1475 Norman Chapel Rd NW, across the street from Cleveland State Community College.
Convocation continues on Tuesday with chapel services in both the Conn and Dixon Centers. A different music service will be held in each chapel. Conn Center will host an “All Music Chapel,” while Dixon Chapel is hosting Power Unlimited. Both services are there to guide students through the week and right into service that night where Pastor David Cooper of Mount Paran Church, will be ready to speak to the students of Lee.
The last night of convocation will be led by Pastor JC Worley of GO Church. Following the service, there will be a fundraiser for Phi Chi Gamma. They are hosting “Post-Convo Nachos,” from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the PCSU. It is open to all, $3 nacho bowls and $1 drinks.
The conclusion of fall convocation is Thursday morning chapel service in the Conn Center with a worship service. This service is a communion chapel, where as a student body, the Lee community will be taking communion together.
The requirements for attending convocation are a minimum of 3 out of the 4 services; Tuesday and Thursday chapel are not included in the convocation count. All the same, convocation credits do not count toward a student’s minimum chapel credits for the months of August/September. Both of these events work together during convocation week, but they do not have any overlap in terms of student attendance.
While there is a requirement for attendance, all students are encouraged to be there every night and enjoy this Lee University tradition of community prayer, worship, ministry, and fellowship.
Convocation evening services as well as morning chapels will be live streamed on Lee University’s FaceBook and website.
