Another year of Shenanigans
Shenanigans is a Lee University late-night improvisation staple - an opportunity to take a break from the books and laugh for a while.
These ten students, ranging from a freshman nursing major to senior club president come from a number of majors and backgrounds. Together they make up a quick-thinking and witty group of individuals.
New faces this semester, affectionately called “Shenani-babies,” are Harper Johnson, Clarissa Bordelon, and Elise Vedders.
Maggie Russell, current club president and coach, says the uniqueness of directly involving the audience in each prompt is what makes Shenanigans a great experience. Different audience members are invited to call out a location, item, or theme, that the Shenanigans create a scene.
The shared experience of laughter, for the low price of one dollar, brings in a crowd as each show is completely unique, unscripted, and full of laughter.
“You are as important to the show as we are to putting on the show for you. We want to hear how you feel about the scenes,” comments Russell on encouraging audience members to not hold back their laughter, gaps, or banter when applicable.
Each improv show includes some long-form scenes where performers receive audience prompts, a quick succession of shorter-form guessing games, and finishes off with a long-form narrative based scene.
Coming upon the 20th anniversary of Shenanigans, Lee’s campus is encouraged to show up and experience “improvisation theatre” themselves.
Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming weekends October 23rd and 24th and the classic Homecoming and Reading Day shows!
