Know how: Lee University success

Know how: Lee University success

As Lee University welcomes both returning and new students for the spring semester, here are a few reminders. There are requirements for graduation as well as helpful tools for the journey. Whether this is your last semester or your very first, here are some tips for success.

Track your progress, be a self-advocate

One part of the college experience is learning to be your own advocate. Knowing too much about the college process will never be a waste. While advisors are here to help with scheduling throughout your Lee experience, keeping track of the credits you need to graduate is essential. This can take many forms depending on personal experience and major. A part of independence in college is sticking up for yourself and your goals.

Service hours and service learning

A key component of education at Lee is service learning. Students that arrive their freshmen year are to acquire 80 hours of service before they graduate. Special cases, such as transfer students, differ. While service hours are not inherently required on a semester basis, it is advised for 20 hours of service to be completed yearly — or 10 hours per semester. Service takes many forms at Lee: clubs, organizations, and some service hours are embedded in courses, as well as individually-arranged service projects.

Global Perspective opportunities

Global Perspectives is an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to participate in a “cross-cultural experience.” These trips are underlined in Christian values. Global Perspectives trips seek to grow students’ perspective of the world around them while building respect for diversity. A list of trips and information on the Global Perspectives website for students to visit and decide where they would like to go.

Take advantage of office hours

Getting adjusted to college life is a large part of the Lee experience. An aspect of being your own advocate is to be transparent when help may be needed. One can make use of Lee professors’ office hours. You ultimately achieve based on what you're willing to put into your individual experience. Office hours offer an opportunity to ask questions, get to know your professor, and score some social points.

Counseling center

With the stress of college further help is never discouraged, and Lee is ready to help. The Counseling Center is a free resource to students in the form of individual, couple, or group sessions. For those who find themselves in need of such services, it is available. For more information visit their office located in the Watkins building.

Student success

For further academic help, Lee has many resources. The Hub connects students with a success coach for their time at Lee. On this page, you can also connect with a tutor. Meeting with a career coach is another opportunity the Hub offers. The Calling and Career Center, located on the first floor of the PCSU, offers services to students focusing on their career.

Getting involved

Whether it is through Residential Life, Campus Recreation, Intramurals, clubs, ministries, ensembles, or Greek life, finding your people and a place you feel you belong is an important aspect of building foundations on campus.

Ultimately, living out your young adult years only happens once. Making the most out of your experience at Lee is up to you.
