Spring Student Art Showcase
Lee University is hosting its annual art exhibit this spring. The exhibit features artwork from students who participated in the France cross-cultural trip or were chosen by professors. It includes a variety of pieces, from pottery to portraits, and will be open for viewing through March 30 in the Mayfield Gallery.
The Lee University art department aims to cultivate talent in its students and highlight each unique skill through classes that teach different media and allow for individual creativity. Lee offers a variety of art classes, including watercolor, oil painting, drawing, and ceramics. These classes give students an outlet to express themselves visually.
“I like all the ways that art can be used. It helps me show others what I like and my perspective of the world. Art is also used to advocate for change, whether personal or political,” said Charis Trammell, a sophomore studio arts major at Lee University.
Trammell has two pieces displayed in the exhibit — a master copy of Claude Monet’s “Water Lily Pond” and a light study piece.
As art majors, students have the opportunity to embark on a Global Perspective trip to France in the spring semester and practice their skills at Atelier Neo Medici, an art school in Monflanquin. Students are mentored and coached by a master while improving their technique and defining their personal style.
“My pieces are in-depth studies of the Northern Renaissance technique. I worked on them for more than 100 hours in France last semester,” said Jordan Lenarz, senior studio art major.
Lenarz was one of the students selected to showcase her pieces from last spring’s trip to France. She has three pieces, all from her time in France, displayed in the gallery.
The complete list of students participating in the showcase is as follows: Julia Halterman (Paintings from Painting I); Charis Lynes (Painting I and/or Drawing I); Charis Trammell (Painting I); Leah Milliron (Ceramics I); Mackenzie McIntyre (Ceramics I); Anna Evans (Digital Illustration); Jordan Lenarz (three paintings from France); Lilliana Holland (one painting from France); and Emme Lowder (Painting I).
The opening reception for the showcase was held March 17.
