Spectators at a Lee University men’s tennis match might think they’re seeing double on the court, but the Pons Lang twins warrant a second look.

Antonio and Cristian Pons Lang have been at Lee for two years, quickly making a name for themselves both on the tennis court and off. Originally from Chile, the twins played at Jacksonville College in Texas before moving to Cleveland to play for Lee.

“Both guys came highly recommended, and it was obvious from our first conversation that they would be a great fit for Lee,” said Patric Hynes, head coach of the Lee Tennis teams.

Although Antonio and Cristian have been teammates since birth, they still find hiccups in their on-court chemistry from time to time.

“Our game is pretty different. We play doubles sometimes, but I don’t know if I like it because we fight a lot. It’s impossible not to fight, on and off the court,” said a smiling Antonio.

Despite butting heads, the brothers’ attributes are complementary, making the team better as a whole. No matter how much they might bicker as teammates, the Pons twins walk away as brothers at the end of every day.

“After years of being together, you would think that they would want to hit with someone else, but they always seem to find each other,” said Hynes.

The tennis season will start up in the spring for the Lee University Flames. Keep up with the Pons twins and follow the Flames tennis team at leeuflames.com.
