What to know for Advanced Class Selection (ACS)
As this fall semester comes to a close, it is time for Lee University students to start thinking about their schedules for the upcoming semester. With Advanced Class Selection (ACS) quickly approaching, students are planning their classes and checking in with their advisors.
Before students start this planning period, they should first meet with their advisor to look over and discuss their progress and what classes they want and need to take next semester. Advisors should reach out to students to schedule a time to meet with them to do this, but students who have not heard from their advisor should contact them through email or stopping by during their office hours to make an appointment.
Students can make the process smoother by reviewing their degree requirements before the meeting. This can help narrow down and determine which classes they need to take. Students can check their progress through Portico and review their major requirements through Lee University’s Degree Requirements page. Having an idea of what courses are needed before meeting with an advisor helps students prepare for their appointment.
During this meeting, students and advisors work together to create a schedule that not only checks the boxes for what the student needs but also what works best for the student.
This could look like finding classes that start early in the morning, for students who are “morning people” or finding classes that start later in the afternoon for students who may work during the morning. Advisors can also recommend courses and answer questions about graduation requirements.
A step that students should not overlook is completing the advisor evaluation after meeting with the advisor. Completing this evaluation is crucial to the ACS process. Completing the evaluation allows students to register for their classes early.
When it comes time to register, each class has an assigned ACS date and time. Staying up till midnight is a good way to guarantee that you will be able to secure a spot in the classes you are wanting.
It is not too late to register for classes early. Take a look at degree requirements, schedule an appointment with an advisor, complete the advisor evaluation, and register for classes on the assigned date.
