The Lady Flames volleyball team competed in the Aiken Invitational tournament this past weekend in Aiken, South Carolina. The tournament proved to be a challenge as the team pulled off just one win in their four matches.

“Overall I feel we could have done a little better,” said head coach Andrea Hudson. “The teams were very competitive. We did show some moments of greatness and then we would regress back to old habits.”

The team looked good in their first match on Friday against North Greenville, pulling out a three-set win. The following game against Lander University was a hard fought 3-1 loss. Saturday, the team started out the day against Florida Southern with a four-set loss, then rounded out the tournament against USC Aiken with a three-set loss.

The strong competition proved to be a challenge for the young team; however, the losses will allow for growth. The girls walk away determined to get better as the season begins.

“Our team can grow from this tournament, we can learn from it,” said sophomore middle blocker Savannah Chan. “We still have a lot of important matches. We can get better and be prepared for the conference games.”

With conference just around the corner, the team has high hopes for the season. The tournament has left the team with a desire to improve and come back stronger.

“We know we will be growing as the season progresses,” said Hudson. “We hope to always see a better team at the end than the beginning.”

The Lady Flames next game will be this weekend at Lee University.
