The Lee University Women’s golf team brought home third place at the Lee Ann Noble Memorial tournament in Dahlonega, GA last week. The women finished third place overall after leading in the first round. Head Coach John Maupin and his team went into the tournament with high expectations on a course they knew well.

“It’s a golf course that we’ve had a lot of success at, and I think our team is capable of posting some really low numbers at,” said Maupin. “We just didn’t execute as well as we wanted to.”

The tournament began well as the team led with a 294 in the first round. Day two proved tough, as it brought the team to a 596 finish. Although the team did not finish as well as they would have liked, a few players ended up with top finishes.

“I thought Carson McKie and Yui played very solid for us this week,” said Maupin. “They both ended up with top individual finishes and played pretty well both days. Judianne Speach gave us a big lift in round one. She got off to a tough start but held it together to help give us the lead.”

The Lady Flames are hoping their placement in this tournament will help them better prepare for their spring season.

“This tournament will be a great learning tool for us,” said Maupin. “A good reminder that you have to come out ready to play in every single round and the importance of complete focus on each shot.”

This loss will be a great motivation going into the off-season, according to Maupin. The Lady Flames will begin their spring season at the Battle of Hilton Head in February 2020.
