1. Sinclair Broadcast Group faces ransomware attack over weekend

On Monday, Oct. 18, Sinclair Broadcast Group announced it was hit by a ransomware attack over the weekend.

The company explained in a news release that the ransomware affected office and operational networks and stole network data. Sinclair explained the company would be “working diligently” to make sure operations resume as quickly as possible and the full effects of this incident are to be determined.

“As the company is in the early stages of its investigation and assessment of the security event, the company cannot determine at this time whether or not such event will have a material impact on its business, operations or financial results,” Sinclair said in the news release. “As the company conducts its investigation, it will look for opportunities to enhance its existing security measures.

2. Chicago Sky wins first WNBA championship

At the end of the Women’s National Basketball Association finals on Sunday, Oct. 17, the Chicago Sky made history by winning Chicago’s first WNBA championship title against the Phoenix Mercury, with a close score of 80-74. 

Notable players from the Sky include Candace Parker, who scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds and five assists, Allie Quigley, who scored 26 points and Kahleah Copper, who was awarded Most Valuable Player honors, reports ESPN. 

“Congrats to our new WNBA champs, @ChicagoSky! I couldn’t be prouder of this team — they worked hard for this moment, and have made our city proud,” former president Barack Obama tweeted on Sunday, applauding his hometown team.

3. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announces presenters for 2021 induction ceremony

On Monday, Oct. 18, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its lineup of presenters and performers for the 36th annual induction ceremony. 

The presenters will include: Taylor Swift who will induct Carole King, Paul McCartney who will induct the Foo Fighters, Drew Berrymore who will induct the Go-Gos, Angela Bassett who will induct Tina Turner, Dr. Dre who will induct LL Cool J and Lionel Richie who will induct Clarence Avant, reports Rolling Stone.

Swift will also perform alongside King and Jennifer Hudson, and there will be performances from Christina Aguleria, H.E.R., Bryan Adams and Mickey Guyton, according to Billboard.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame told its audience to “stay tuned,” as more presenters and performers will be announced in the future.

The ceremony will be filmed on Oct. 30 at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio, and it will air on HBO and stream on HBO Max on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. eastern standard time.
